Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. –John 3:18
The Outreach Committee of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church adopted as a mission statement: Reaching out, in the name of our Lord, to help those in need in our community, our nation and the world.
To accomplish this mission, the committee utilizes a variety of projects. Examples include: a monthly food collection to help support The Center of Hope Food pantry, providing a noon meal at The Salvation Army on weekends when the Army does not have a noon meal, providing funds to an elementary school in our neighborhood to buy school supplies, and providing financial support for the Gateway Coalition, Harbor House and the Samaritan’s Purse. Additional projects include a collection of clothing and supplies for infants and young children through a Shower for Mary held each Advent season, collecting signed Christmas cards to be sent to incarcerated individuals in Illinois, UNICEF collections, and Super Bowl Sunday collections to support local food pantries. The most recent committee worldwide project was to help purchase mosquito nets to prevent malaria in tropical underdeveloped countries.
